This Mother’s Day, Say It with Seafood

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to think of seafood. Of course, flowers are a great accompaniment, but below are five reasons why seafood is what the mother(s) in your life will really love—and they will love you for thinking of serving it.

Ban the Moody Blues
What mother doesn’t want to be in high spirits on the one day of the year she is being recognized by the entire nation, if not the world? Fish contains vitamin D, magnesium, and zinc, which tend to be low in people who are depressed. In fact, people who eat more seafood are 20% less likely to face depression than their peers. So why not serve seafood quiche, shrimp salad, or a branzino taco bar to help ensure mom enjoys her day.

Have Skin in the Game
Women of all ages long for smooth, radiant skin. (Why else are anti-aging skincare products alone a multi-billion dollar market?) This is especially true on Mother’s Day when mothers of all ages want to look their best. The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish are believed to encourage skin’s oil production and hydration, while the amino acids in fish help build and maintain collagen, the substance responsible for skin’s elasticity.

Win Her Heart
There is nothing better to give mom than the gift of health. Seafood fights inflammation, the leading cause of chronic diseases, including heart attacks, stroke, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Serving up one of these delicious high-octane omega-3 dishes will let mom know you want to love her for years to come.

Take Her Away
Most mothers like to feel they are still as adventurous as they were in their pre-children days (okay, well, maybe not that adventurous). As the single most widely available protein available worldwide, with the right recipe, the limitless variety of seafood dishes can easily transport mom anywhere in the world without leaving the dining room table.

Seeing is Believing
Omega-3s, especially the EPA and DHA found in seafood, help protect vision and guard against retina diseases, such as macular degeneration and many others. Studies also show that fatty acids found in seafood can ward off other eye ailments, including increased eye pressure, glaucoma, and dry eye syndrome.

So this year, say it with seafood to let mom know how much she really means to you.
